Karen Quest is a variety entertainer
What kind of entertainer are you?
I am known as “America’s funniest cowgirl.”
How did that happen?
I went to the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Clown College and then I developed a vaudeville act. I do trick roping and whip cracking comedy.
Oh my goodness, I think that is amazing!
What do you enjoy most about your job?
People are laughing out of their reality—in other words, I’m creating their reality. If you think back to the Great Depression, that’s when screwball comedies first came into play. The harder things get the more people laugh.
What is the hardest part about your job?
Getting it. I love my work, but the hardest part is finding jobs and getting hired.
Do you believe in a higher power? If so, what do you call it?
I believe in people. I believe in the collective higher consciousness.
If you woke up tomorrow without any fear, what is the first action you would take?
I would call up this guy and ask why he didn’t kiss me when he had the chance. No, I guess my real answer would be stand-up comedy, without any props. Yeah, I would like to do a stand-up routine at an open mic.
For what would you like to be forgiven?
Family and that’s all I am going to say.
